Actually, the a Gutsy Bat CAN INDEED be obtained from the Krakens located in Magicant. I've gotten it in multiple playthroughs on the SNES. To ever have a chance of obtaining it you have to save prior to entering the Sea of Eden, fight the Krakens, and reload until you get it.
