The Nintendo 64
The Nintendo 64 is Nintendo's third home video game console. It was released on June 23, 1996 in Japan, September 29, 1996 in North America, March 1, 1997 in Europe. Mother 3 began its development for the Nintendo 64DD titled EarthBound 64, but due to the commercial failure of this expansion system, it was moved to this platform. The only Nintendo 64 game with EarthBound content is Super Smash Bros., in which Ness appears as a playable character.
The development team experienced trouble with the development of Mother 3, and as a result, it was delayed several times and ultimately cancelled late in the summer of 2000. Mother 3 was later released in 2006 for the Game Boy Advance in Japan only.
