The Insecticide Spray is one of the first battle items in EarthBound. It can be used by any party member and is bought in Threed, Saturn Valley, and Fourside for $19, selling for $9. It is also found in a Trash Can in Threed and in Brick Road Maze. This item deals 100 damage to an insect-oriented enemy, but breaks immediately upon use, which includes the Attack Slugs, Black Antoids, Titanic Ant, Arachnid!s, No Good Flies, Red Antoids, Violent Roaches, Mostly Bad Flies, Criminal Caterpillars, Skelpions, Gigantic Ants, Filthy Attack Roaches, Arachnid!!!s, Dread Skelpions, Master Criminal Worms, and Pit Bull Slugs.
The Insecticide Spray is generally used throughout the whole game. It can be found easily near the middle of the game and its cheap cost renders it versatile. Because of this, it is considered a resourceful battle item against specific enemies. Once Ness and his friends reach a certain level, the Insecticide Spray will be too weak as their bash and shoot attacks overpower it, rendering it inefficient. Additionally, no insect enemies exist beyond the Deep Darkness, making it useless from then on. The Xterminator Spray is superior to this battle item, but is extremely hard to get, being a 1/128 item dropped from a Mad Taxi in Fourside and Summers.
