The Fish is an optional boss in EarthBound Beginnings. It can be encountered in Magicant's Crystal Cavern. It attacks physically twice each turn. This enemy's battle theme is Battle with a Dangerous Foe. Its role is to guard the entrance to the room containing the Onyx Hook. Although it is not required, it makes it much easier to get back to Magicant.
Defensively, The Fish has 65 HP and 60 DEFENSE. Offensively, it has 38 OFFENSE, 45 FIGHT, and 30 SPEED. Its resilience to Status Ailments is 20 WISDOM, 40 STRENGTH, and 40 FORCE. It drops 140 EXP and $180 when defeated.

- This enemy was also intended to be in Mother 3, but it was cut from the game for an unknown reason.
- The irony in this boss is that it is a fish guarding an item that just so happens to be a hook. With this context, it would be the fish that caught the player with the enticement of bait (Onyx Hook).
- This is one of the only aquatic-related enemies in the game along with the Crocodile.
- In the companion guide, he is called "Master of the Underflow" (Varies according to fan translation) in Mother, "The Fish" in EarthBound Beginnings, and "Cave Master" in Mother 1 + 2, making this enemy incredibly varied in name among versions.
- His description reads, "Deep in the Magicant Underflow, he keeps a keen eye out for prey. His body being covered in hard, iron-like scales, no minor attack will so much as faze him. Always launches continuous attacks.".
