Canary Village (カナリアむら) is a safe location in EarthBound Beginnings, west of Podunk. In the top floor of the Podunk department store, a salesperson will offer a Canary Chick for $85 dollars. If Ninten tells him he wants it but will not pay the price, he will give him the chick for free. The residents of Canary Village are solely birds; save for one man, who tells Ninten that the chick is the baby of a singing canary, Laura. Laura can be found by going through the silver pillar, which will reveal an opening in the fence Ninten can go to reach her. If the chick is returned to its mother, she will sing the Second Melody to Ninten out of happiness.

Just before heading inside the village, there is a second bridge north of the first one from Podunk. Going up that path reveals a shortcut to the City Zoo where the Third Melody can be obtained.

Story[]

The Canary Village is a mandatory location Ninten must visit to obtain the Second Melody. Ninten gets the Canary Chick from the Podunk department store and makes his way to Canary Village. From there, an old man asks him if that chick is Laura's. Ninten then finds Laura above the village fence and gives the Canary Chick to Laura, remembering the Second Melody. All the other canaries express their gratitude by chirping happily when talked to.

Trivia[]

  • After giving the Canary Chick away, all the other Canaries will sing to Ninten upon interacting with them.
  • Even though the player immediately gets the Second Melody upon giving the Canary Chick to Laura, the old man still reminds Ninten if he learned the melody.
  • The village has the same dead branches and architecture as the Cemetery.
  • Many players can easily miss the village if they pay too much attention to the dirt road heading to Podunk. Since there is little point in revisiting Podunk after Magicant, this can result in some making it all the way to Mt. Itoi without learning the Second Melody.
